June 2007 History Mystery

Spring and summer are popular times for the emotions of love and friendship and the experiences that come with it.  This is something that has been true through the pages of time in our country.  The emotions of love and friendship can be felt within many areas of your own life.  Your family,  home and pets are among these.  There are other things that you can probably list that you feel love for.  It is most likely a very long list.

Many of the things that you think are happening only at this time in American history have happened before.  And love and friendship are no exception to this.  Choosing battle lines and who to align yourself with is something that you might struggle with every day.  The experiences that you have had,  however,  are uniquely your own.

The June 1900 Republican convention was held in Philadelphia,  Pennsylvania.  President McKinley was easily renominated at that time.  The question was who would be the Vice Presidential candidate.  The nomination was accepted by Theodore Roosevelt who was reluctant to leave office as the governor of New York.  William Jennings Bryant was nominated at the Democratic convention.

A major issue during the election were whether independence should be given to the territories that were received in the war with Spain.  Theodore Roosevelt felt that The United States should ciilize the lands first.  William Jennings Bryant believed that they should be immediately released and given their freedom.  At stake was the question of continued prosperity.  The prosperity era of President McKinley was the deciding factor.
