Jeremiah Thompson
Born September 1842
Jeremiah tossed three Morgan silver dollars into the fountain. It was 1878 and a time when currency was changing America. The supply of coins had finally been returned to American consumers. Until then, fractional currency had been issued. It was not until 1878 when coin supplies were finally restored to pre-war levels.
The wedding had been a success. Jeremiah began his life with Elizabeth filled with hopes for the abundance of a family farm that was well planted and cultivated.
A reception following the church wedding was held at the barn. The barn was located close to Jeremiah's house and could more than meet the needs of any farmer during the late 1800s. Jeremiah had enlisted the help of those who he knew could help in the Northern Virginia community where his farm was at.
The reception that Jeremiah and Elizabeth planned for their guests was in the box. A large wooden box sat on the table alone. The cake was in sight near this table. Fosting in white cascades looked as inviting as the guests who were long missed and not seen for very long.
Elizabeth guided Jeremiah towards the wooden box. It was the magical moment that their guests had waited for. Both adults and children of all ages were within the crowd of guests. Quiet fell over the crowd and their attention focused on the table with the wooden box. Slowly, Elizabeth and Jeremiah opened the lid of the box. Red cardinals flew out of the box and ascended upwards to the beams and rafters of the barn. Counting twelve in number, they were a highlight of the evening.
